Obituary of William Foelsch

William Foelsch March 23, 1924 - April 4, 2013 William Foelsch, 89, of Canadensis, died Thursday, April 4, 2013 at home. He was the loving husband of Ethel (Neupauer) Foelsch. Born in Astoria, NY, he was the son of George and Frances (Gogo) Foelsch. A Veteran of the US Navy. William served during World War II in the Pacific Theater as a tail gunner, mostly in the PBY Catalina long-distance patrol aircraft. He accomplished over 300 missions and received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Navy Air Medal. William was a self-employed distributor for Tom's Toasted Peanut Co. (now Tom's Foods) in Passaic and Morris Counties in New Jersey for 25 years. In his next business venture William owned the Creative Stonecrafts where he was a lapidary for semi-precious stones and jewelry. He then owned and operated the Mountain Gem Haus, a gem, mineral and craft store, in Cresco. After his retirement, his hobby became woodworking with a specialty in the technique of Intarsia, working with inlaid patterns of wood. He attended various craft shows throughout the Tri-State region selling his handmade woodwork. He also loved gardening and had a complete home garden ranging from flowers and shrubs to fruits and vegetables. In addition to his wife, Ethel, he is survived by sons: William D. Foelsch and wife Angela of Hillsborough, NJ, Robert E. Roman and wife Linda of Denville, NJ; daughters: Barbara Klingensmith and husband Richard of Mechanicsburg, PA, Joanne P. Noble and husband Jeffrey of Boiling Spring, PA, Shelley B. Cors and husband Stephen of Punta Gorda, FL; thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his beloved and often spoiled dog Lacey. He was preceded in death by a son Jeffrey J. Roman, a grandson Jeffrey J. Roman Jr. and a granddaughter Catherine Ciecelco. Pastor Gregg Schafer will conduct a memorial service on Monday, April 8 at 2:00 PM at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. The family will receive guest from 1:00 until the time of service.
