Obituary of Mary Sweeney

Mary Margaret Sweeney, 73, of Pocono Lake, died on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. Born in Bethlehem, she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Anne (Mellon) Sweeney. A graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School class of 1957, Mary was a strong member of the Church Community. She belonged to St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish and also Christ the King Church, where she taught CCD classes for ten years. Mary was also a community volunteer for Tunkhannock Township. Her biggest enjoyment's were attending church services, reading and always helping others in any way that she could. She is survived by two sons: Brian Sterner and his wife Pamela of Castorland, NY, Patrick Sterner of Bethlehem; three daughters: Coleen Dymond and her husband Edward of Fishersville, VA, Maureen Sterner and her companion John Kadany of Long Pond, Kathleen Gray and her husband Chadd of Cresco; seven grandchildren: Edward Dymond, Courtney Dymond, Eric Sterner, Christian Sterner, Taylor Sterner, Kyle Gray , Meghan Gray and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Nancy Kreck and Patricia Bechdolt. There will be a viewing on Friday, April 26 from 5-7pm at the Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. There will be a second viewing on Saturday, April 27 from 9-10am at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, 5112 Pocono Crest Road, Pocono Pines. The Reverend Father John Boyle will celebrate a Mass of Christian burial on Saturday, April 27 at 10am following viewing hours. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mary's honor may be sent to Bethlehem Catholic High School, 2133 Madison Avenue, Bethlehem, PA 18017 or to St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, PO Box O, Pocono Pines, PA 18350.
