Obituary of Mary Asure
Mary Bridget Asure , 94, died on June 9 after a short illness. Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Confidante, and Worker of Miracles Extraordinaire.
Born in Scranton, Mae, as she was affectionately known. Along with her husband Paul, moved to the Poconos in 1947.
Together they built and operated the honeymoon resort, Paradise Valley Lodge, that eventually became Memorytown USA in Paradise Township. In its heyday, everyone who visited the Poconos came to the nostalgic little Village that took folks back to simpler times. From its quaint country lodging, old General Store , Tavern by the Lake with the endless collection of Antiques, and the first Candle shop in the Poconos, all combined with warm hospitality, there was something for all at Memorytown.
Everyone in the area worked for the Asures. Paul always said she was " the brains behind the man". She was a true business woman of the greatest generation. The last few years of her life were spent enjoying the warm sunshine living in Florida with her daughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, and her beloved sister, Jeanne Greger, and son in law, Curt Boyer. She is survived by two children, Jack Asure and his wife Donna of Saylorsburg, Jill Holland and her husband John of Dania Beach, Fla., 4 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren, and her very special Nieces, Susan and Sandy Greger of Ipswich, Mass and Tannersville.
Always proud of her Irish heritage, this was her favorite blessing. "May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May god hold you in the palm of his hand." We love you, we will miss you, there will never be another quite like you. Services will be held at a later date in Florida.
