Obituary of Raymond Gotty

RAYMOND G.GOTTY Raymond G. Gotty, 88, of Tobyhanna, PA died Friday morning, August 23, 2013 at Pocono Medical Center, Stroudsburg, PA. He was the husband of Regina (Stark) Gotty, with whom he had shared 65 years of marriage. Born in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Alfonse and Margaret (Geraghty) Gotty . Mr. Gotty was a resident of Livingston, NJ for 25 years, where he was active in the community serving both on the Auxiliary Police Force for over 25 years, and in scouting as a Boy Scout Troop Leader for over 25 years until moving to Tobyhanna 30 years ago. Mr. Gotty continued volunteering in the Boys Scouts in Tobyhanna and remained active on the committee for Troop 91. He was the recipient of numerous awards throughout his 50 years in scouting, including "Distinguished Leader Award". Mr. Gotty served in the Army branch of the Armed Forces of the United States in WW II and was also the recipient of the "Legionnaire of the Year" award, Post 903, Mt. Pocono, PA for the year 2011. Ray, as he was known to friends and family, was retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., of NJ after 25 years with the company. He was proud to volunteer his time and help young men become responsible upstanding citizens. He was most proud of the many scouts who earned their Eagle Scout Awards. He held many cherished memories of scouting, and family, and friends and times with his wife, Regina who shared his love of horses. In addition to his wife Regina, he is survived by his son: Raymond, and his fiance Nina Allen of Blairstown, NJ, his daughter: Lu Ann Gotty of Tobyhanna, one brother: Robert Gotty of Cumming, Georgia, a sister: Dorothy Mills of Long Island, NY and two beloved grandchildren: Christina Gotty and Raymond J. Gotty Jr. both of Blairstown, NJ . He will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews, associates and friends. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 27th at 11:00am at the church of St Ann, Main Street Tobyhanna. A visitation with the family will be from 10:00 am until the time of service, Tuesday, at the church. Burial with military honors will follow at Saint Catherine's cemetery Moscow. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Ray's name to the charity of your choice.
