Obituary of David McLaughlin
David R. McLaughlin, 67, of Tobyhanna, died on Monday, September 9, 2013 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Muhlenberg. He was the husband of Dolores (Misto) McLaughlin to whom he celebrated 45 years of marriage with on July 27th.
Born in Hazelton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Heckler) McLaughlin. He was a 1963 graduate of St Ann's High School in Freeland.
A veteran of the United States Navy he served on the USS Warrington from 1963-1966. He also received the Blue Nose Certificate for crossing the Arctic on September 21, 1964. He was a charter member of the VFW Post 3448 and played an instrumental role in finding their new property. He worked as the Beverage Manager at Pocono Manor for 33 years and later became a Real Estate Agent for Century 21 Select Group.
David was of the Catholic faith and a member of Most Holy Trinity Parish. He had a love for animals, especially abused and abandoned dogs and had a strong affiliation with the AWSOM animal shelter in Stroudsburg.
In addition to his wife, Dolores, he is survived by two sons: David McLaughlin, Jr. of Tobyhanna, Sean McLaughlin and his wife Lori of Mount Pocono; two brothers: Richard McLaughlin of Cresco, Joseph McLaughlin Jr. of Freeland; a granddaughter who was the love and joy of his life: Leah Rochelle and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, John McLaughlin.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, September 12 from 5-8pm at the Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. The Reverend Father Joseph Kopacz will celebrate a Mass of Christian burial on Friday, September 13 at 11am at St. Mary of the Mount Church, 27 Fairview Ave., Mount Pocono. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
