Obituary of Bernice Hayden

Bernice Elaine Hayden, 77, of Pocono Pines entered eternal peace on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. She was the beloved wife of the late James Hayden. Born in Norwich, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Edith (Holden) Strickland. Bernice was a Mohegan Tribe Elder who was very active within the community. She was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Tobyhanna Senior Center, the Lake Naomi Club and Faith Lutheran Church in Blakeslee. She always kept busy driving from place to place playing card games, taking classes at East Stroudsburg University, visiting the casino, cooking and what she enjoyed most of all was spending time with family and friends. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her five children: Wendy Echeverria and Henry Bockelman of Pocono Pines, Wayne Brown and his wife Ellen of Little Falls, NJ, Russell Brown and his wife Jane of South Carolina; Darlene Spencer of Connecticut and Jeffrey Breece of Connecticut. She is also survived by several brothers, sisters, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She graced her family's lives with a loving and generous heart. Bernice will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul. There will be a viewing on Friday, November 1 from 10:00am -12:00pm at the Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. The Reverend Wayne Kaufman will conduct a funeral service at 12:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Prospect Cemetery in East Stroudsburg.
