Obituary of John Abuiso

John Nicholas Abuiso, 84, of Canadensis, died on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Easton Hospital. He was the loving and devoted husband of Shirley (Hoffman) Abuiso for 61 years. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Anthony and Lillian (Borris) Arbuiso. A veteran of the United States Navy, John served during the post WW2, Korean War and Vietnam War eras and was recently honored aboard the USS Intrepid in NYC for his service. After 20 years of faithful service, John retired from the Navy and began work as an Investigation Supervisor at Morgan Guarantee Trust Company in NYC, where he retired in 1988. John enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandkids, when it came to them or their sporting events he was their number one cheerleader on or off the field. In his spare time he liked to tinker around and build model ships and cars with items he found around the house. He was featured in magazines and newspapers for the amazing and beautiful creations he made from scratch and his imagination. John was a true defender of the Catholic Faith and an active member and volunteer of the Church of St. Bernadette. Although his name may never appear in the Book of Saints or be prominently remembered in American History books, John was truly one of the great men of our time. He and his wife have touched hundreds of lives in countless ways. They selflessly gave to anyone in need even if it meant them doing without. He was an inspiration to anyone who had the honor and pleasure of knowing him. He embodied the credo: God, country and family. The world may not take notice of his passing but we and the world are less with his absence. In addition to his wife, Shirley Rose he is survived by his sons: Joseph and his wife Donna Abuiso of Scranton, Anthony and his wife Dawn Marie Abuiso of Long Pond and Michael and his wife Stephanie Abuiso of Canadensis; his daughters: Kathleen and her husband Charles Caponigro of Cresco, Donna Vazquez of Hanover Twp. and Mary Kreer and her husband James of Georgetown, DE.; sisters: Patricia Gallagher of Newport, RI and Gloria Farris and her husband Mel of Florida; 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son John Raymond Abuiso. There will be a viewing on Monday, February 10th from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Bernadette, Route 390, Canadensis. The Reverend Father Gregory Loughney will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. at the Church, Route 390, Canadensis.
