Obituary of Jean Mills
Jean A Mills, 77, of Canadensis, died April 12, 2014 at home after a battle with cancer surrounded by her family. She was a loving and caring wife to the late George Mills and mother to 6 children, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Jean was born in Brooklyn NY and was the daughter of Frank and Madeline (Rose) Van Pelt.
Jean followed in her father's footsteps and became a Marine. She married and raised her family in Brooklyn NY before moving to the Poconos. She worked at Daniels resort for 25 years, where she made many lifelong friends. Jean was also a past president of the Auxiliary at Evans Blitz American legion Post 922 in Canadensis. She was a devote Catholic and an active member of the Ladies Guild at St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church.
Jean was the anchor of her family. Her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews always looked forward to a visit. She looked forward to a good game of cards with her grandchildren. She will be missed deeply but her words of wisdom and love will be with us forever. She always told us "Be Kind".
She is survived by her five daughters: Catherine Young and her husband Joseph of Manassas, VA, Barbara Allender and her husband Edward of Crofton, MD, Madeline Virostek and her husband Larry of Cresco, Mary Terranova and her husband Sal of Chandler, AZ, Jean Schupp and her husband Jim of Meadville, PA; son: George E. Mills of Canadensis; eleven grandchildren: Ryan, Michael, George, Emily, Joseph, Eddie, Sal, Steven, Jimmy, Jonathan and Joey; and two great -grandchildren Kobee Lee and Zoe. There will be a viewing on Tuesday, April 15 from 3:00 - 6:00 PM at the Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. The Reverend Father Paul Fontanella will celebrate a Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, April 16 at 10:00 am at the Church of St. Bernadette Route 390, Canadensis. Burial will follow at Moravian Cemetery, Route 447, Canadensis.
