Obituary of Matthew Lawless

Matthew T. Lawless, 69, of Cresco, died on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He was the loving husband of Nadine (McNamee) Lawless, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage. Born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., he was the son of the late Desmond and Grace (Tyndall) Lawless. Matt was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, N.Y., and of Villanova University. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Matt served in Vietnam with the 1st Cavalry Division as a helicopter pilot and was awarded a Purple Heart, in addition to the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star and Air Medal. He moved with his family to the Poconos in 1975 and began working at Tobyhanna Army Depot, until his retirement in 2006. In addition to his wife, Nadine, he is survived by his sons: Brigham Lawless and his fiancee, Jeannine Maggio, of Tobyhanna and Zachary Lawless of East Stroudsburg; his daughter, Kieran Strosser and her husband, Jim, of Holtwood; and his three grandchildren: Sophie Lawless, Quinn Strosser and Kurt Strosser. There will be a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at Bolock Funeral Home & Crematory, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. The Rev. Gregory Loughney will conduct a blessing service at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Cremation has been entrusted to Bolock Funeral Home & Crematory.
