Obituary of Alvin Wescott
Alvin "Speedy" C. Wescott, 70, of Cresco, died on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He was the loving husband of Jean (Hardy) Wescott to whom he had been married for 50 years.
Born in Mount Pocono, he was the son of the late Albert and Madeline (Nauman) Wescott.
A veteran of the United States Army National Guard, Alvin joined the military in 1962 and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sargent in 1967. He was a member of the Canadensis United Methodist Church and a proud volunteer firefighter for the Barrett Township Volunteer Fire Co. for the past 44 years. Alvin had a passion for helping people and served his community proudly. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and was also a member of the Seese Hunting Camp. His family and friends will remember him as a hard worker, master craftsman and faithful and loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by his daughter: Michele Morris and her husband Darrell of Sharps Chapel, TN; a son: David Wescott and his wife Michelle of Canadensis; two brothers: Robert Wescott and his wife Jane of Bath, Edwin Wescott and his wife Barbara of Canadensis; two sisters: Ruthann Williams and her husband Kenny of Tannersville, Beverly Varvel and her husband Larry of Cresco; four grandchildren: Jason Morris and his wife Jessica, Jacob Morris, Ashleigh Wescott, Nathan Wescott and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a viewing on Friday, May 16 from 4-8pm at the Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. Pastor Mertice Shane will conduct a funeral service on Saturday, May 17 at the Canadensis United Methodist Church at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Alvin, may be made to the Barrett Township Volunteer Fire Co., PO Box 1, Buck Hill Falls, PA 18323.
Cremation is entrusted to the Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
