Obituary of Mary Kurtz

Mary Louise Kurtz, 82, of Pocono Lake, died Thursday, June 5, 2014 at her home. She was the loving wife of the late Elwood C. Kurtz, Jr. Born on January 17, 1932 in Bedford, IN., she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Lucie (Stephens) Stone. A member of the Pocono Lake Wesleyan Church, Mary was faithful to the lord. Before moving to the Pocono Mountains, she was a member of various church organizations and women's groups at the First Christian Church in Hardin County, Kentucky. Many people knew Mary for her exceptional talent in making homemade candy. Her world revolved around her family, especially her children. She was not only a "mom" to her own children, but a mother figure to many others. She also enjoyed nature and taking long walks. She is survived by her sons: Elwood "Chris" Kurtz and his late wife, Robyn of Tannersville and Thomas Kurtz of Elizabethtown, KY; her daughter: Lucy Bockelman of Pocono Lake; her brother: Harold E. Stone of Bedford, IN; her grandchildren: Chris Switzer, Christy Hempstead, Alycia McDermott, Kyle Kurtz and Sam Kurtz and great-grandchildren, Lileigh McDermott, Chloe Hempstead and Jamison Hempstead. Reverend Luke Richards will conduct a service on Friday, June 13 at 5 pm at the Pocono Lake Wesleyan Church, 203 Spur Road, Pocono Lake, PA 18347. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Pocono Lake Wesleyan Church at the address listed above.
