Obituary of Donald Judge

Donald E. "Bud" Judge, 81, of Pocono Pines, died on Monday, July 7, 2014, at his home. Born on July 28, 1932, at home in Pocono Pines, where he lived all his life, he was the son of the late Edward and Helen (Werkheiser-Bonser) Judge. Donald graduated from Tobyhanna Township High School and attended East Stroudsburg University. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Pocono Pines. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he made the Army baseball team and was stationed in Germany during his enlistment. Donald was a retired member of the Carpenters Union 600. He was a charter and life member of the Tobyhanna Township Volunteer Ambulance Corps (now Pocono Mountain Regional Ambulance) and a life member of the Tobyhanna Township Volunteer Fire Company. He served in many capacities over the years, including fire chief from 1971 to 1976. He was a member of Wilson-Fischer American Legion Post 413 in Pocono Lake, celebrating 50 years of service in 2014. When the post burnt down, he along with Jack Fischer headed up a committee to rebuild the post. Donald was one of a group of residents that was instrumental in the purchase of Blanche D. Price Memorial Park, and served on the township's first parks and recreation committee. In addition to his wife, Lillian, to whom he was married for 58 years, he is survived by his children: Margaret Caldwell and her husband, Samuel, of Windsor Locks, Connecticut; Nancy Judge of Pocono Pines; and Timothy Judge of Pocono Pines; his grandchildren, Sam and Jill Caldwell, and Jacob Judge; two sisters: Mary Lou Maver of Crystal River, Florida, and Georgine Bortz and her husband, Gerald, of Swiftwater; and many nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by two sisters, Diane Smith and Linda Judge; and one brother; Jimmy Judge. There will be a viewing from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Bolock Funeral Home & Crematory, 6148 Paradise Valley Road. The Rev. John Stowell will conduct a funeral service at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 10, at Salem United Church of Christ, Pocono Pines. Burial will follow at Pocono Lake Cemetery.
