Obituary of Joseph Austin

Due to the pending snowstorm, funeral arrangements have been changed to 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 25 at St. Ann's Church with entombment to follow at Laurelwood Cemetery. There will be a vewing on Sunday, February 24 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Joseph O. Austin, 76, of Tobyhanna, died Saturday, February 16 at Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. He was the husband of the late Louise Austin, who passed away in 2002. Born in Guyana, South America, he was the son of the late Joseph and Maria (Samuels) Austin. He earned his masters degree in education. Before his retirement, Joseph was a school teacher in New York City. He was a former member of the Board of Directors at A Pocono Country Place. He also wrote for the PCP newsletter. He is survived by two sons, Allen Austin of San Francisco, CA, Amar Austin of Brooklyn, NY; a daughter, Sylvia Austin of Brooklyn, NY; a sister, Gwendolyn Powdar of Brooklyn, NY; three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one great great grandson and several nieces and nephews.
