Obituary of Martin G. Johnson

Martin G. Johnson, Sr., 82, of Springville, UT, and formerly of Mayer, AZ, died unexpectedly on Sunday, May 18 at the home of his son in Canadensis, Pa. He was the husband of Winfred M. (Smith) Johnson, to whom he was married for over 61 years. Born in Winstead, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Francis A. and Elizabeth M. (Felmer) Johnson. Before his retirement, Martin was employed as a telephone repairman for 28 years with Mountain Bell and Q-West. He then worked for independent telephone contractors in California. During World War II, Martin served in the 3rd Jasco, 3rd Division of the 2nd Battalion of the United States Marine Corps on the islands of Guam and Iwo Jima. He was a devout Catholic who for many years served as a volunteer for the St. Francis DePaul charities and the Mayer, AZ elders. In addition to his wife, Winifred, he is survived by a son, Martin G. Johnson, Jr. of Canadensis, Pa.; four daughters, Marlene Humphrey of Springville, Utah, Enell Brown and Patricia Clandening, both of Mayer, Arizona, Theresa Asbury of Prescott Valley, Arizona; twelve grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mayer. AZ. Interment will take place on Monday, August 11 at 10:00 a.m. at the Veterans Cemetery in Salt Lake, UT.
