Obituary of Thomas G. Williams

Thomas G. Williams, 86, formerly of Mt. Pocono, died Wednesday, July 3, 2008 at Barnes-Kasson Skilled Nursing Facility in Susquehanna. He was the husband of the late Catherine E. Williams. Born and raised in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Thomas G. Williams, Sr. and Caroline (Chadwick) Williams. He graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School, Class of 1939. A resident of Elizabeth, NJ for 40 years, he was first employed by the Singer Sewing Co. for 17 years and then worked for the National State Bank, from which he retired. After his retirement in 1985, he moved to the Poconos. Thomas was a member of the Paradise Valley Assembly of God Church where he served on the board for many years. He also volunteered for the Barrett Volunteer Ambulance Corp. A veteran of the United States Army, he served in the Pacific during World War II, where he received many medals including two bronze stars and the World War II victory medal. He is survived by a step-son, Pastor John L. Martin of Spring Hill, Florida; three step-daughters, Elizabeth Bishof of Atlantic Highlands, NJ, Grace Guiro of Whiting, NJ, Kathleen Young of Susquehanna; 22 step-grandchildren; and 14 step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Maureen Murphy. Pastor John L. Martin will conduct the funeral service on Tuesday, July 8 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. Interment will follow at Keokee Chapel Cemetery. There will be a viewing from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
