Obituary of Mildred Edwards
Mildred W. Edwards, 89, of Mountainhome, died Thursday, April 5, 2007 at the VNA Hospice House of Monroe County. She was the wife of the late Donald L. Edwards, Jr.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late James and Agnes (Vivian) Williams.
Before her retirement, she was a bookkeeper for the Tobyhanna Army Officers Club. In her younger years, she was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader in Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of the Mountainhome United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Crafters. She served as Treasurer for many years for the Barrett Ambulance Auxiliary, and was a member of the "We Care" program, affiliated with the Barrett Township Police Department. Mildred was also a long time volunteer for the Nearly New Shop in Mountainhome. She loved gardening and doing crafts, especially sewing and knitting.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas Edwards and his wife, Alice Jean of Tunkhannock, Richard L. Edwards and his wife, Diane, of Canadensis; a daughter, Joan Reinhardt, and her husband Robert of Cresco; a sister, Thelma Neely of Easton; six grandchildren; and three beloved great grandchildren; Alison, Aidan, and Owen Michael. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret and Ethel; and two brothers, Russell and Edward.
The Reverend Barbara Housley will conduct a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 14 at the Mountainhome United Methodist Church in Mountainhome. There will be a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Mountainhome.
