Obituary of James F. Phelan

James F. Phelan, Sr., 59, of Pocono Summit, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at the VNA Hospice House of Monroe County in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Shirley (Mann) Phelan. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of James E. and Jean (Mansfield) Phelan of North Wales, PA He was currently employed in Logistics at the Tobyhanna Army Depot. An Army veteran, James served in the PA Army National Guard; 28th Infantry Division with the 108th Combat Support Hospital, 128th Chemical Co, and 1-109th Mechanized Infantry. He retired as a Staff Sergeant (E-6) after 28 years of service. James was a member of the East Stroudsburg American Legion George N. Kemp Post #346. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a son; James F. Phelan, Jr. and his wife Angela Quintana of Mays Landing, NJ; a daughter Jenniferann Crosby and her husband, Thomas of Tobyhanna; grand-daughter, Piper Crosby; a brother, Gary Phelan of Bensalem; and three sisters, Karen McCarthy of Chalfont, Holly DiStefano of Horsham, and Melissa Nolan of Jenkintown. There will be a viewing on Friday, July 18 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. The Reverend Joseph Kopacz will conduct a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19 at the funeral home. Cremation will follow at the Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
