Obituary of Howard D. Wellman
Howard D. Wellman, Jr., 79, of Buck Hill Falls, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at the VNA Hospice House of Monroe County in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Caroline (Weymuller) Wellman, to whom he was married for 51 years.
Born in Jamestown, New York, he was the son of the late Howard D. Wellman, Sr. and Genevieve (Fisk) Wellman.
Upon graduation from Dartmouth in 1949, Howard served as a corporal with the Army of Occupation in Germany. After his discharge, he was employed by Crawford Furniture in Jamestown, NY and New Bethlehem, PA. He then joined the Nestle Company and became plant manager in Freehold, NJ and Granite City, Illinois. Howard then became plant manager for a new plant in Burlington, WI and moved to middle manager for distribution in White Plains, NY. After 29 years with the Nestle Company, he worked for Preferred Health in Wilton, CT as an office manager.
One of his favorite pastimes was walking with his border collie mix, Shelby, through the hills of Buck Hill Falls.
In addition to his wife, Caroline, he is survived by a son, Andrew W. Wellman and his wife, Caren of Newtown, CT; three daughters, Pamela Drummond and her husband, Chris of Wilton, CT, Martha Wellman of Buck Hill Falls, Betsy Wellman and her companion, Chris Geary of San Diego, CA; two sisters, Cynthia Phillips and her husband, Gary of Sarasota, FL, Mary Bates of Sarasota, FL; six grandchildren, Erika, Andrew, and Amy Drummond, Jack, Luke, and Annie Wellman; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, William Wellman.
A memorial service will take place at a later date. Cremation service was entrusted to the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley.
