Obituary of George Runne
George Robert Runne, 79, of Mechanicsburg, formerly of Long Pond, died Friday, May 29, 2009 at the home of his daughter Colleen Runne in Mechanicsburg. He was the husband of the late Kathleen (Cash) Runne.
Born in North Bergen, NJ, he was the son of the late Albert and Anna (Neibergall) Runne. Before his retirement, George was employed by J, P & B Meyers Co. He was in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict and was an active member of the VFW, Moose Club, and the American Legion.
George was very active in sports, playing semi-professional football and fast pitch softball for several teams in the North Bergen and Hudson County, N.J. areas. He was also involved in the North Bergen Little League, coaching a team sponsored by Ward Trucking for 10 years and serving as an umpire when needed. George was a founding organizer and coach of Pee Wee and Bantam League Football in the North Bergen area, coaching many undefeated and championship teams throughout the years. He also helped to build the first Youth Organization Club House.
George is survived by four sons: Commander Robin Runne of Washington, Keith Runne of Lake Hopatcong, N.J., Brett Runne of Long Pond, Dean Runne of Lake Hopatcong, N.J.; one daughter: Colleen L. Runne of Mechanicsburg; one brother: Arthur Runne of Lake Hiawatha, N.J.; two sisters: Anna Pizzollo and Joan Cadamatre both of Bricktown, N.J.; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert and Robert Runne.
There will be a viewing on Monday, June 1 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 and 390, Paradise Valley.
Reverend Wayne Kaufman will conduct a funeral service on Tuesday, June 2 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow at Prospect Cemetery in East Stroudsburg.
