Obituary of M. Anne Louise Koerner
M. Anne-Louise Koerner, 92, of Cresco, passed away on Sunday, May 15 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Hamilton Township. She was the wife of the late George P. Koerner, who died in 1997.
Born in Bethlehem, on February 24, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Rollin and Marguerite (Wagner) Sterner. A Monroe County resident for most of her life, Anne-Louise graduated from Liberty High School in Bethlehem in 1936. She received the Marion Grace Scholarship for vocal performance from Moravian College, graduating in 1940.
She was employed by Jacob's Aircraft in Pottstown during World War II as a data processor. She then worked at several hotels in the Pocono area and retired from Business Supply Corporation in 1973.
Anne-Louise was a member of Keokee Chapel United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the church choir for more than 50 years. She also taught Sunday School and Bible School and served many years on the Church Council. Her memberships also include the Willing Workers of Paradise Valley, the Christian Women's Club, the United Methodist Women, and the Military Officer's Association of America for retired spouses. She also volunteered at the Nearly New Shop in Mountainhome.
Her hobbies were gardening, music, baking and needlework. Anne-Louise always entered her wares in the canning and baking competitions at the West End Fair.
She is survived by three daughters, Pamela Dunlap of Cresco, Patricia Grainger and her husband, Tom of Cresco, Phyllis Besecker and her husband, Robert of Stroudsburg; a son, George P. Koerner, Jr. and his wife Christine of Alexandria, VA; a sister, Betty Dwyer and her husband Edward of Alexandria, VA; seven grandchildren, Michelle Bisbing, Matthew Dunlap, Melissa Grainger, Mickey Besecker, Amanda Sandy, Philip Koerner, Nora Koerner MacDonald; six great-grandchildren, Travis and Meredith Bisbing, Hannah Besecker, Jack Dunlap, Payton Besecker and Nathan Dunlap; several cousins and many nieces and nephews.
Reverend Mertice M. Shane will conduct a funeral service on Friday, May 20 at 10:30 am at Keokee Chapel United Methodist Church, Keokee Chapel Road in Cresco. There will be a visitation from 9:00 am until the time of the service at the church. Interment will follow in Keokee Chapel Cemetery.
