Obituary of Robert Totenbier

Robert "Bob" E. Totenbier, 78, of Swiftwater, formerly of State College, died Monday, June 24 at home. He was the husband of Gladys (Moyer) Totenbier. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Ernest J. and Irene (Hart) Totenbier. Bob grew up in Bethlehem and graduated from the Liberty High School Class of 1947. He went on to complete his Bachelor of Science in 1964 from Penn State University. Bob retired from the Penn State University Breazeale Nuclear Reactor after more than 30 years of research. He served in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a Humanist. Bob met his dear wife, Gladys when they were both 16 years old; they later married and would have celebrated 57 years of marriage in August. Their devotion to each other was unmatched and they were rarely apart since they met. He was the best dad to his daughters and they helped care for him in his final days while at home. Bob was known to his family and friends as a person who could build or fix anything, often spending many happy hours in his workshop constructing whatever someone needed. He also loved to travel. He and his wife have been to every state on the mainland and to Alaska twice, camping in one of the seven RV's he enjoyed throughout the years. His favorite place to visit was Cape Hatteras, N.C. In addition to his wife, Gladys, Bob is survived by two daughters: Sally L. Totenbier and her husband John W. Finta of Houston, TX and Amy T. Henasey and her husband Michael E. Henasey of Swiftwater; one sister: Phyllis J. Sharkan and her husband Dr. William Sharkan of Allentown; his granddaughter and sunshine, Delaney Henasey and grandson and pride and joy, Sean Henasey. Cremation was entrusted to the Bolock Funeral Home Crematory. Interment of cremains will take place at a later date in the EcoEternity Forest at Pocono Plateau. Bob's family would like to thank the staff at both the Geisinger Medical Center and the VNA Hospice of Monroe County for the exemplary care that he received from everyone. In lieu of flowers, Bob's family requests that you donate blood at your local blood bank or send memorial contributions to the MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome) Foundation, PO Box 353, Crosswick, NJ 08515.
