Obituary of Roger Rake

Roger W. Rake, 71, of Cresco, died Sunday, December 2 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains. He is survived by his wife, Arlene (Slutter) Rake. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Julian "Peck" Rake and Gertrude (Dunston) Rake. He attended Barrett High School. Roger retired as a Staff Sargeant in the United States Marines. He served his country from 1954 to 1974, including two tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion Post #922 in Canadensis and a life member of VFW Post #3448. He was of the Methodist faith. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Vincent "Kimo" Rake of Texas, Matthew Rake, USMC; two daughters, Rowina Hail and Vikki "Sam" Stumbo, both of Ohio; three brothers, Jay Rake of Mt. Pocono, Julian "Butch" Rake of Cresco, Wayne Miller of Texas; six sisters, Dona Townsend of California, Janice Bloudeau and Susan Campagna both of Connecticut, Doreen Powers of Kentucky, Colleen Miller of California, and Jean Rober of Stroudsburg; one aunt, Glendora Shaller "Aunt Dot" of Mountainhome; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joycelyn and a daughter, Faith. The Reverend Barbara Housley will conduct a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 6 at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Mountainhome with Military Honors. There will be a viewing on Wednesday, December 5 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Toys for Tots, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
