Obituary of Margaret Gaughan
Margaret "Peggy" Gaughan, 74, of Mount Pocono passed away on April 25, 2007 at the VNA Hospice House in East Stroudsburg, surrounded by family and listening to Frank Sinatra. She was the wife of the late Peter J. Gaughan.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Margaret (Oliver) Helfrich. She graduated from St. Nicholas High School and the Nesbitt Memorial College of Nursing in Wilkes-Barre. She also attended Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre. She was married to her high school sweetheart for 37 years before his death in 1991. They traveled all over the world due to his military career, living in California, France, Texas, Virginia, and Korea before settling down in the Poconos.
Peggy was employed in the nursing field and later as manager at Oppenheim's Department Store in Mount Pocono. She spent her later years helping raise her grandchildren, reading, and doing her much-loved crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her son, Mark Gaughan; daughter, Kelly Beckstrom; grandchildren, Ashley, Sean, Vicki, Garrett, and Peter; two Aunts, Nancy Cave and Jean Helfrich; and her sister-in-law Rosemary Gaughan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter and her son, Timothy.
The Reverend Father Joseph Kopacz will celebrate a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2 at St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church, 27 Fairview Avenue in Mt. Pocono. There will be a visitation at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service.
