Obituary of Maria Macavia

Maria (Hess) Macavia, 80, of Tobyhanna, died Wednesday night, November 28 at the home of her daughter. She was wife of the late Peter J. Macavia. Born in Heppenheim, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Franz Martin and Kathrina (Fuhrmann) Hess. Maria was active in many catholic organizations and with the Disabled American Veterans. She was of the Catholic Faith. Maria is survived by one son: Anthony Macavia, Sr and his girlfriend Debbie Griffith of Long Pond and his two children; one daughter: Joanne Kopsaftis and her husband William of Tobyhanna and their three children; two sisters: Elsa Goebel and Anna Schuster, both of Germany; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Peter, Maria was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters, and her brother-in-law, Donald Macavia. The Reverend Father Joseph Kopacz will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, December 3 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Mount Church, Fairview Ave. Mt. Pocono. Entombment will follow in Laurelwood Cemetery. There will be no viewing. Arrangements were entrusted to the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a catholic charity or veterans organizations of your choice.
