Obituary of George Mate

George Mate, 78, of Reeders, died Wednesday, April 16 at the VNA Hospice House of Monroe County in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of the late Bernice Mate. Born in West Windsor Twp., NJ, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Papp) Mate. He was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Church in Pocono Summit and a United States Navy veteran. He is survived by a son, Richard Mate and his wife, Mary of Albrightsville; a daughter, Cynthia Kresge and her husband, Tim of Pocono Summit; a sister, Florence Gardner of Toms River, NJ; four grandchildren, Richard and Christopher Mate of Albrightsville, Joseph Mate of East Stroudsburg, Jaklynn Kresge of Pocono Summit; two great grandchildren, Ravon and Alisha Mateof Albrightsville; and his companion, Jeanne Burd. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice, two brothers, John Mate and Lou Marki; and a sister, Mary Ahr. The Reverend Father Michael Salnicky will celebrate a Divine Funeral Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 18 at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Rt. 940 in Pocono Summit. Interment will follow at Prospect Cemetery in East Stroudsburg.
