Obituary of Joan Foster
Our lives are deeply saddened by the loss of Joan Foster of Buck Hill Falls, who passed away on Saturday, November 3 at her home. She was the wife of Harold K. Foster for nineteen wonderful years and lived life to the fullest. Each day she shared her optimistic attitude and witty sense of humor with her treasured friends and family.
Joan was born in Orange, NJ in 1931 to Leroy and Theresa Cruse. She moved to the Poconos in the early 1950's to become the owner of the Antlers Lodge, a country inn in Swiftwater, for thirty years. During that period she was active with the Pocono Mountains Vacation Bureau and had the honor of becoming the first woman president in 1976. She then became a part of the real estate expansion in the area and eventually retired to enjoy her golf, painting, music and many friends.
Joan lived her life with grace and style and has passed quietly with the dignity of an extraordinary woman. All who knew her will miss her genuine warmth and thoughtfulness and the energy, creativity, and passion she brought to her many projects and interests.
In addition to her husband Harold, Joan's survivors include sons, David Toms of Minneapolis, MN, John Toms and wife, Kim of Henryville, Allen Foster and wife, Roberta of Cedar Knolls, NJ; daughters, Leslie Roman and husband Peter of Blakeslee, Beverly Foster of Morristown, NJ; one brother, Stephen L. Cruse and wife, Marjorie of Livingston, NJ; and many loving friends and other family members.
There will be a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 8 at The Lakeview Dining Room in the Inn at Skytop Lodge, Route 390, Skytop, Pa. Family and friends may visit from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Barrett Friendly Library, PO Box 604, Mountainhome, Pa. 18342. Joan was an avid reader and cared deeply for this wonderful library.
