Obituary of Walter Beers
Walter A. Beers, 76, of Cresco, died Wednesday, June 1 at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Margaret (Pinard) Beers, to whom he was married for 52 years. Born in Newark, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Walter A. Beers, Sr. and Margaret (Motzenbecker) Beers. Raised in South Orange, New Jersey, Walter raised his family in Morris County, New Jersey and moved to the Poconos four years ago. Before his retirement, he was a sales manager for New Jersey Bell Yellow Pages in Morris County, New Jersey. He was a member of Saint Bernadette's Church in Canadensis. A veteran of the United States Army, he served during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #922 in Canadensis and an active alumnus of Saint Anselmn College in Manchester, New Hampshire. He loved skiing, wind-surfing, and kayaking, and was active in these sports until his illness. In addition to his wife, Margaret, he is survived by a son, Steven M. Beers and his wife, Marie of Randolf, New Jersey; three daughters, Lynn B. Garatty and her husband, Robert of Mount Arlington, New Jersey, Kathryn B. Wheeler and her husband, George of Big Pine Key, Florida, Judith B. Snyder and her husband, Jeffrey of Yardley; a brother, Robert Beers of Clinton, New Jersey; three sisters, Barbara B. Oberle and her husband, Louis of Manasquan, New Jersey, Elaine B. Becker and her husband, Karl of Short Hills, New Jersey, Linda B. Bryant of Berwyn; five grandchildren, Jaime Sanchelli of Whippany, New Jersey, Mindy Ann Beers of Philadelphia, Aimee and Daniel Snyder of Yardley, Troy W. Beers of Randolf, New Jersey; and many nieces and nephews. The Reverend Father Alfred Vito will celebrate a Memorial Mass on Saturday, June 4 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernadette's Church in Canadensis. There will be a visitation from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. Cremation took place at the H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1101 Hill St., Jessup, Pa. 18434
