Obituary of Elsie Struckle

Elsie Elizabeth Struckle, 81, of Cresco, passed away on Friday, March 13 at home. She was the wife of Frank Struckle, to whom she was married for 59 years, 10 months. Born in Cooperstown, NY, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Gertrude (Knapp) Korosec. She attended Richfield Springs Central School. On May 22, 1949, she married Frank Struckle and lived in Schenectady, NY. In July 1966 Frank was transferred to the Tobyhanna Army Depot. They purchased a home across the street from the school that her two sons would attend, Pocono Central Catholic School in Paradise Township. Elsie soon started to volunteer at the school and was asked to temporarily begin janitorial duties. She continued working that job for 18 years. Before her illness, Elsie worked for over twenty years at the Casino Theatre Entertainment Center in Mt. Pocono, which is owned by her son and daughter-in-law. She will always be remembered for her delicious soups: her lobster bisque has always been the top seller. She also worked at Caffaro's Pizzeria and Scavello's Bagel Place. She and her husband enjoyed traveling. Their trips included two train excursions with a polka band and a trip to Hawaii, each lasting two weeks. The most exciting trip was to Slovenia where Elsie met her parents' families. Elsie was an avid and devoted bowler winning many awards. Her highest game was 277. She competed nationally with other local members in Las Vegas, Arizona, St. Louis, New Orleans, Tampa, Ohio, and Connecticut. She was a member of St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church in Mt. Pocono. Elsie was such a hard worker; always helping her family and friends without being asked. Her cooking was legendary including her potato salad and apple pie. She loved to play cards with her family. In addition to her husband, Frank, she is survived by two sons, Donald Struckle and his wife Karen of Cresco, David Struckle and his wife Marjorie of Jordanville, NY; two devoted grandchildren, Donald Struckle, Jr. and Melissa Struckle; two sisters, Mary Stucin of West Oneonta, NY and Sophie Smith of Ganesvoort, NY; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Korosec of West Winfield, NY, Margaret Struckle of Worcester, NY; brothers-in-law, John Struckle of Albuquerque, NM and Edward Struckle of Roswell, NM, and several nieces and nephews.. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jennie McCarthy and Anna Kerzick; a brother, Frank Korosec, and sister-in-law, Jennie Sega. Thanks to Drs. Ryan and Chaudry and special thanks to her sister, Sophie and niece, Barb Martin for their help during her illness. There will be a viewing on Monday, March 16 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. The Reverend Father Joseph Kopacz will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17 at St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church in Mt. Pocono. Interment will follow at Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Elsie's name at VNA Hospice of Monroe County, 502 Independence Road, East Stroudsburg, Pa. 18301 or Msgr.
