Obituary of Chauncey Wilton

Chauncey Monroe Wilton, 88, of Tobyhanna, died Tuesday, November 18 at The Laurels in Peckville. He was the husband of the late Pauline (Berger) Wilton, to whom he was married for 48 years. Born and raised in Tobyhanna, he was the son of the late Joseph and Linnie (Cobb) Wilton. Before his retirement, Chauncey was a rural mail carrier in Tobyhanna from 1945 to 1980, where he made many friends, young and old. A very proud WWII veteran, Chauncey was a P47 Pilot in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a member of the 22nd Fighter Squadron, the 36th Fighter Group based in England, France and Germany, flying 67 missions. He also served in the reserves until 1980 when he retired. He was an active member of the Tobyhanna United Methodist Church for many years where he served as Chairman of the Building Committee. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #504 in Moscow, PA. He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Wilton and her husband Stephen D. Day of Blandon, Pa, and Paula Nawrocki and her husband, Leonard "Rock" of Moscow; a sister, Betty Mae Knecht of Tobyhanna; and two grandchildren, Kevin Nawrocki and Richard Day-Wilton. He was preceded in death by two brothers. There will be a viewing on Thursday, November 20 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. The Reverend Thomas Daniel will conduct a funeral service on Friday, November 21 at 10:00 a.m. at the Tobyhanna United Methodist Church in Tobyhanna. Friends may gather from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in the Garden of Devotion at Prospect Cemetery in East Stroudsburg.
