Obituary of Fred Orlowsky

Fred R. Orlowsky, 85, of Mountainhome, died Friday, December 23 at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Virginia (Palagonia) Orlowsky. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Richard and Katherine (Mann) Orlowsky. A native of New York City, Fred joined the Army in 1942. He was a member of the 3rd platoon, which lost two planeloads of troopers enroute to Normandy. He fought at Pouppeville, France on D-Day, then at Hill 30 and beyond, late in June of 1944. He also fought at Eerde and Schijndel, as well as on the "Island" in Holland. He was seriously wounded in 1945. Fred earned two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. After WW2, Fred returned to Brooklyn and became a New York City police officer, serving 26 years. He then worked for J. P. Morgan Bank for 17 years in security. In addition to his wife, Virginia, he is survived by a son, Richard Orlowsky of Mountainhome, a sister, Barbara Palagonia of Sherman, CT; two grandchildren, Alexandra Waale and John Kuhlke of Huntington Beach, CA; and three great grandchildren, Thomas, Griffin, and Grace Elizabeth Waale, also of Huntington Beach, CA; and several nieces and nephews. The Reverend Alfred Vito will conduct a Memorial Service on Wednesday, December 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. Cremation services were entrusted to Bolock Funeral Home. Relatives and friends may visit from 1:00 until the time of service at the funeral home.
