Obituary of Thomas Stevenson

Thomas J. Stevenson, Jr., 88, of Tobyhanna, PA and Melbourne, FL died Thursday, June 24 at Lehigh Valley Hospice in Allentown, Pa. He was the husband of Catherine Virginia (Campbell) Stevenson. Born in Queens, New York, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Helen Veronica (O'Brien) Stevenson. He was a graduate of the Georgetown School of Foreign Service in Washington, D.C. Before his retirement, Stevenson was the President of TJ Stevenson and Company a New York steamship and brokerage company. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Weininger Foundation. Stevenson was a member of the VFW in Tobyhanna. In 1944, he was among the survivors of the USS Samuel B. Roberts, a Destroyer Escort sunk during the Battle of Leyte Gulf in the Philippines. In addition to his wife, Virginia, he is survived by nine children, Thomas J. Stevenson, Sue Ellen Boyle, Shawn L. Stevenson, Scott M. Stevenson, T. Andrew Stevenson, Kim A. Stevenson, Jeffrey A. Stevenson, Jo Ann Fuller, Amy M. Straubel; 24 grandchildren; and one great grandchild. There will be a viewing on Monday, June 28 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. The Reverend Father Joseph Kopacz will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29 at St. Ann's Church, Main Street, Tobyhanna, Pa. Burial will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 30 at Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury, NY.
