Obituary of Therese Schotter
Therese I. Schotter, 82, of Tobyhanna, passed away on January 1, 2009 at the VNA Hospice House of Monroe County in East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of Robert O. Schotter, Sr.
Born on October 16, 1926 and raised in Worcester, MA, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Catherine (Shea) Butler. Therese received her Bachelor of Science degree from Clark University. She then moved to New York where she worked as a social worker for Children's Services and completed her Master's degree in Social Work at SUNY at Stony Brook in 1978.
Therese attended St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Pocono Summit. Along with her private practice, she was active in the Rotary Club, served as a President in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Chaplain for the Veterans for the Vietnam War and Korean War Veterans organizations. She also served in the Pocono Area Transitional Housing office and ran a group for unwed mothers at the Monroe County Correctional Facility.
In addition to her husband, Robert, she is survived by two sons, Christopher J. Buckley and his wife, Joanne of El Dorado Hills, CA, Richard Schotter and his wife, Irina of Selden, LI, NY; three daughters, Maura C. Schotter and her husband, Robert O. of Tobyhanna; Patricia Tucker and her husband, Gene of Tobyhanna; Sandra Aubry and her husband Robert of Fort Lee, NJ; son-in-law, Thomas Jatko of Colorado; nine grandchildren, Chris Kubasek, Jessica and Robin Schotter; Jarrett, Taylor, and Nick Schotter, Deborah Pezzuti, Monica Gomache, Alexandra Aubry; and five great grandchildren, Jeremiah Schotter, Danielle and Ashley Gomache, and Abraham and Aidan Pezzuti. In addition to her first husband, James T. Buckley, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah S. Buckley; two brothers, Philip Butler and Dr. Carol F. Butler; and a sister, Dr. Susan Butler.
There will be a viewing on Friday, January 9 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. The Reverend Father Michael Salnicky will perform a Parastas service at 2:00 p.m.
On Saturday, January 10, a Panachida service will take place at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by the Divine Funeral Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Pocono Summit. Interment will follow at Prospect Cemetery in East Stroudsburg.
