Obituary of John Decker
John "Jack" Neil Decker, 83, of Tobyhanna, died peacefully on Wednesday morning, April 15 at the home of his daughter Sandra. He was the husband of Mary (Tapyrik) Decker of Mountainhome.
Born in Plymouth, Pa, he was the son of the late Chase Harvey and Hazel (Peters) Decker. Jack served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. When he returned to the Poconos, he worked as a Caddy at Skytop Lodge. He also worked in the Lumber industry in the Pocono Mountains, before learning the plumbing trade at Vogt Plumbing. When Jack retired, he was employed by Pyrofax Gas Co. in Cresco.
Jack volunteered for the Barrett Forest Fire Crew # 34 and the Barrett Volunteer Ambulance Corp. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing; and tending to his vegetable garden.
In addition to his wife Mary, Jack is survived by his two daughters: Delores Ann Decker of Mountainhome and Sandra Leigh Strait and her husband Kevin of Tobyhanna; one grandson: Jeremy Daniel Strait of Tobyhanna; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister: Faye Shoesmith.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Private Cremation was entrusted to Bolock Funeral Home Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Barrett Township Volunteer Ambulance Corp. PO Box 105, Cresco, Pa 18326-0105.
