Obituary of Evelyn Winifred Hay
Evelyn Winifred "Winnie" Hay, 88, of Pocono Summit, died on Friday, May 30 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Hamilton Township where she had been a resident for the last two years.
Born in Pocono Summit, she was the daughter of the late R. Ralph and Dolores (Peechatka) Hay. She was a lifelong resident of Monroe County.
Winnie graduated from the Coolbaugh Township High School in 1937 and began working at Pocono Manor in the laundry department on July 4. The General Manager of Pocono Manor discovered she had been taking a correspondence course in accounting and asked her to accept a position as a clerk in the accounting office. Winnie remained working at Pocono Manor until December of 2003 in the accounting office, finally ending her career in the position of Assistant Treasurer of the hotel, retiring with 66 years of continual and loyal service at the amazing age of 84. Winnie was always a positive supporter of tourism in the Poconos, especially Pocono Manor Inn. In 2003 she was presented with the Tourism Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Pocono Mountain Vacation Bureau, Inc.
Winnie was a member of the Mount Pocono United Methodist Church. She was active in church and community events and was also a Girl Scout troop leader in Pocono Summit for many years. She was loved and respected by all for her love, devotion, wisdom, and immense generosity.
She is survived by a brother, Kenneth Hay and his wife, Julie of St. Petersburg, Florida; sister-in-law, Beverly Hay of Mt. Pocono; three nephews, Mark Hay and his wife Linda, of Pocono Summit, Preston Hay and Ralph Hay, both of Asbury Park, New Jersey; and two nieces, Ruth Rarick and her husband, Darryl of Sterling and Betty Kruk and her husband, Jeffrey of Tobyhanna, 5 great nephews, 4 great nieces, a great grand niece and many cousins. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Mark Hay.
There will be a viewing on Tuesday, June 3rd from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday, June 4th at the Bolock Funeral Home, Corner of Routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley.
The Reverend John Cordes will conduct a Funeral Service on Wednesday, June 4th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Paul's Cemetery, Swiftwater.
