Obituary of Fabian Cortez
Fabian Orlando Cortez, Sr., 89, of Pocono Lake and formerly of Philadelphia, passed away on Wednesday, September 19 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Twp. He was the husband of Julia (Sherwood) Cortez, to whom he was married for 62 years.
Born in Paing, Philippines, he was the son of the late Hilario and Margarita (Olsalvo) Cortez. He had been a resident of the Poconos for 29 years.
Before his retirement, he was employed as an accountant for the Federal Reserve Bank in Philadelphia. He was a member of the F&AM for 57 years, #493 Crescent Lodge in Philadelphia and #780 Pocono Lodge in Cresco, where he was a Past Master. He was a member of the Pocono Lake United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Logan United Methodist Church in Philadelphia.
In addition to his wife, Julia, he is survived by four sons, Fabian Jr. of Southampton, Richard "Jay" and Robert, both of Philadelphia, and Thomas of Pocono Lake; ten grandchildren, Fabian III, Robert Christy, Daniel, Gabriel, Christopher, Richard, Anthony, Gina, Robert Anthony, and Stephen; two great grandchildren, Devan and Stephen; and one niece, Marie Rice.
The Reverend Gary Meekins will conduct a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 29 at the Pocono Lake United Methodist Church in Pocono Lake. There will be a visitation from 10:30 until the time of service. Cremation services were entrusted to the Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
