Obituary of Charles Ruvola
Charles Ruvola, 88, of Tobyhanna, died Tuesday, July 20 at the VNA Hospice House of Monroe County. He was the husband of the late Lillian F. (Postel) Ruvola, who passed away in 2008.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Charles and Florence (Raso) Ruvola.
Before his retirement, Charles was a postal carrier for the United States Postal Service. A United States Army veteran, he entered into service on Nov. 10, 1941. He was sent to Ft. Dix, NJ for processing, then to Camp Polk, LA, where the 11th Armd. Div. was being activated. He was assigned to Hq. Co. 42nd Tank Battalion Recon. Platoon in Camp Berkley, TX. After that he was sent to Camp Cooke, CA and then to Camp Kilmer, NJ. Departing on Sept. 29, 1944, he arrived in England and was sent into combat in France during the Battle of the Bulge. He was injured and discharged from Camp Edward MA Hospital Center in 1945. Charles was awarded three Battle Stars for major campaigns along with a Good Conduct Medal.
Charles is survived by a daughter, Deirdre and her husband, Albie,; dear friends, Peter and JoAnne Pascullo of Tobyhanna and goddaughter, JoAnne V. Pascullo also of Tobyhanna; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years and a son, Charles Ruvola Jr.
There will be a viewing on Thursday, July 22 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. Graveside services with military honors will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 23 at Prospect Cemetery Mausoleum in East Stroudsburg, Pa.
