Obituary of Joseph Hedges

Joseph A. Hedges, Jr. 87 of Easton and formerly of Mt. Pocono, died Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at home in Easton, Pa. He was the husband of the late Mary (Nardo) Hedges, who passed away in February 2011. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of Joseph A. and Alice M. (McCosker) Hedges. He attended St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. Joe was employed at Burroughs Business Machines for many years. He then worked for Sheridan Printing Company in Alpha, New Jersey, before moving to the Poconos. In 1971, Joseph along with his wife, Mary managed the Sheridan Manor Inn (now Bailey's Steakhouse) in Mt. Pocono. Joe served on the Mt. Pocono Borough Council for 12 years. He also served as Post Commander of the Bernadine-May American Legion Post in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. He was a Third Degree Knight of Columbus, as well as a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. Joe served in the United States Army during World War II. He is survived by two sons, Guy Burgstresser and his wife, Christine of Bethlehem, Paul Hedges and his wife, Kathleen of Easton; two daughters, Linda Burgstresser Brinker and her husband, Donald of Phillipsburg, NJ, Catherine Hedges Lutz and her husband, John of Mt. Pocono; two sisters, Alice Mary Hedges and Marie Theresa Quinn both of the Philadelphia area; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Mary, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph A. Hedges III and his first wife, Loretta (Wilson) Hedges. There will be a viewing on Sunday, August 28 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road in Cresco. The Reverend Father Joseph Kopacz will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 29 at St. Mary of the Mount Church in Mt. Pocono. Private cremation will follow at the Bolock Funeral Home Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary of the Mount Church, 27 Fairview Avenue, Mt.
