Obituary of Russell Eggert

Russell W. Eggert, 80, of Long Pond, died Saturday, June 20 at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Barbara (Hedger) Eggert. Born in Tunkhannock Twp., he was the son of the late William and Beatrice (Kresge) Eggert. He was a 1945 graduate of Tobyhanna Township High School. Russell was the founder of Pocono Flooring, a business he operated for over 33 years. He then worked in real estate and land development. He served as a Forrest Fire Warden for over fifty years and was a committeeman and life -long member of the Monroe County Democratic Committee. He also served as a school board member for Pocono Mountain School District. His many memberships include the Masons in Bartonsville, the Pocono Lions Club for over thirty years, and the American Legion, Wilson Fischer Post. Russell was an avid outdoorsman. In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by two sons, Rev. Dr. Russell W. Eggert, Jr. and his wife Carol of Marlton, NJ, Ralph Eggert and his wife Melinda of Tunkhannock; three daughters, Sharon Little and her husband Ralph of Johnson City, TN, Sheila Holden and her husband Ron of Johnson City, TN, Sarah (Sally) Thompson and her husband Robert of Long Pond; two brothers, Melvin Eggert of Long Pond, Harry Eggert of Bartonsville; two sisters, Harriet Costanzo and her husband Charles of Mt. Pocono, Vivian Gannon and her husband Arlett of Stroudsburg; eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Rev. Dr. Russell W. Eggert, Jr., will conduct a Memorial Service at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2 at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. There will be a visitation from 7:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Legion Wilson Fischer Post #413, Old Rt. 940, Pocono Pines, Pa. 18350 Private cremation was entrusted to the Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
