Obituary of Robert Holup

Robert T. Holup, 72, of Pocono Summit, formerly of Sayreville, NJ died from esophageal cancer on Saturday morning, June 16 at home. Born and raised in Perth Amboy, NJ, he was the son of the late Joseph and Cecilia (Lewandowski) Holup. Robert graduated from Villanova University in Philadelphia and attended New York Law School. He excelled in track and field while at Villanova and was a contender for the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Team in 1956. Early in his career, Robert was a teacher and track coach for St. Mary's Catholic School in Perth Amboy, NJ and was then employed by the Perth Amboy Board of Education, from where he retired after 35 years of teaching in 1997. He was of the Catholic faith. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by two brothers: Raymond and William. He is survived by his beloved wife Joan (Beshada) Holup of Pocono Summit, two sons: Brent Holup and his wife Lisa of Jackson, NJ and Bradley Robert Holup of Pa; two grandchildren, who he was extremely proud of: Lindsey and Brandon Holup of Jackson, NJ; one brother: Joseph Holup of Fords, NJ and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Father Michael Salnicky will conduct a funeral on Tuesday, June 19 at 4:00 PM at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of routes 940 & 390, Paradise Valley. There will be a viewing from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Cremation will take place following the service at the Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
