Obituary of Sonja Blindt
Sonja "Sonnie" H. Blindt, 73, of Swiftwater, died on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest in Allentown, PA. She was the loving wife of Richard J. Blindt, Sr. to whom she had been married for 55 years.
Born in East Orange, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Anna (Reinhold) Olsen.
Sonja's friends and family knew and referred to her as "Sonnie" or "Sunshine", who cherished spending time with her family and friends and especially her grandkids. A retired school bus driver for the Union School District in Union, NJ, Sonnie loved her job and the kids that she transported. She was also a member of the Union School Districts Board of Education Bowling League. After retirement she began working part-time at the Grapevine Antiques & Crafts in Broadheadsville. Sonnie and Richard spent many weekends frequenting Blue Ridge Antiques and attending many auctions. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, wild life, and cooking and hosting large family holiday gatherings. She will be deeply missed.
In addition to her husband Richard, she is also survived by two sons, Richard Blindt, Jr. and his wife Helen of Sparta, NJ, and Gary Blindt of Colonia, NJ; two grandchildren, Richard Blindt, III and his wife Norlyn of Las Vegas, NV, and Joseph Blindt of Sparta NJ; and one great-grandchild, Richard Blindt IV.
Dr. Thomas Richards, Pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Tannersville, PA, will conduct a memorial service on Saturday, September 10, at 2pm at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of routes 940 &390 in Cresco, PA. There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 1pm until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sonnie's memory to the Pocono Township Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 350, Tannersville, PA 18372 or to Central Pocono Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 138, Tannersville, PA 18372.
