Obituary of John Farris

John R. Farris, 72, of Mountainhome, PA and formerly of Fayetteville, NC, died Monday, February 26, 2007 at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, PA. He was the husband of Bertha C. (Shatley) Farris. Born in Layland, West Virginia, he was the son of the late John and Alma (Jones) Farris. In 1980, John retired as a Master Sergeant from the Air Force after 26 years as an Aerospace Photographic Systems Technician. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal; the Air Force Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster; the Air Force Good Conduct Medal; the Army Good Conduct Medal; Air Force Outstanding Unit Award; the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with five Oak Leaf Clusters; the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm; the Vietnam Campaign Medal; in addition to many other medals. He was a member of the Church of Christ. In addition to his wife, Bertha, he is survived by three daughters, Jill Skae and her husband David of Mountainhome, PA; Joan Tillison and her husband Michael of Colorado Springs, CO; Robin Caldwell and her husband Richard of Fayetteville, NC; two brothers, Robert Farris and Jerry Farris of Tallahassee, FL; eight grandchildren, Kristi Skae, Jeannine Christine, David John Skae, Jonathan Skae, Curtis John Tillison, Krista Lott, Callie and Chelsea Caldwell; and one great-grandchild, Dylan Skae. The Reverend Jonathan White of Pocono Church of Christ in Stroudsburg will conduct a funeral service, with Military Honors, at 12:00 on Tuesday, March 6 at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley, PA. There will be a visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Cremation services were entrusted to the Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
