Obituary of Alice Lewis

Alice B. Lewis, 82, of Pocono Pines, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at Hospice Community Care in Wilkes-Barre. Born in Pocono Pines, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Barbara (Habib) Lewis. Alice was a graduate of Tobyhanna Township High School, class of 1945. Before her retirement, Alice worked as a bookkeeper and an office employee at Lewis Supermarket in Mountainhome for 40 years. Alice was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, the former Altar and Rosary Society at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary Wilson-Fischer Post 413 in Pocono Lake. Alice is survived by her siblings, Thomas Lewis and wife, Margaret "Peggy," of Bethlehem, William "Bill" Lewis and wife, Beverly, of Pocono Pines, Joseph Lewis of Pocono Pines, Marjorie Lewis of Pocono Pines; Norman Lewis and wife, Rosemary, of Naples, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Sadie Christman and Betty Joseph and two brothers: Lewis R. Lewis and James Lewis. The family will receive friends at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church on Sullivan Road in Pocono Pines from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5. The Rev. Father John Boyle will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church. Burial will follow at Pocono Lake Cemetery.
