Obituary of Florence Hafner

Florence E. Hafner, 86, of Pocono Summit, died Monday, August 30 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Hamilton Township. She was the wife of Walter V. Hafner. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ellen (Ahern) Dowd. Florence graduated from the Girls Commercial High School in Brooklyn, New York. She was a member of St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church in Mt. Pocono. In addition to her husband, Walter, she is survived by two daughters, Ellen Meli and her husband, Robert of Effort and Lynda Stewart of Tobyhanna; two sisters, Ellen Joan O'Connor of Pocono Summit, Anne Kady of Roseland, New Jersey; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Dowd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 1 at St. Mary of the Mount Church, 27 Fairview Avenue, Mt. Pocono, Pa. 18344 Interment will follow at Gilbert Cemetery in Gilbert. Private cremation was entrusted to the Bolock Funeral Home Crematory in Cresco, Pa.
