Obituary of James Burke

James P. Burke, 70, of Long Pond, died Tuesday, September 28 at home. He was the husband of Donna (Weirich) Burke. Born in Chester, Pa. he was the son of the late James F. and Helen M. (Karman) Burke. Before his retirement, Jim was a manager for the General Electric Carbon Brush Plant in East Stroudsburg for 21 years. Prior to that position, he was a PA State Trooper for six years. He was a United States Navy veteran and a member of the American Legion Post #413 in Pocono Lake. In addition to his wife, Donna, he is survived by three daughters, Debbie Capone and her husband, Sam of Mt. Pocono, Jodi Demarest and her husband, Dan of Tannersville, Amanda Spees and her husband, Doug of Denver, N.C.; a sister, Helen Znacko of Richmond, VA; ten grandchildren, Ashley, Michelle, and Jordan Capone, Megan, Ian, Campbell, and Keegan Demarest, Brett, Kaylee, and Trey Spees; and several nieces and nephews. There will be a viewing on Friday, October 1, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 & 390 in Cresco. The Reverend John Stowell will conduct a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 2 at the Salem United Church of Christ in Pocono Pines. Interment with military honors will follow at Pocono Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Hospital online at www.stjude.org
