Obituary of George Papa
George Papa, 85, of Pocono Pines, died unexpectedly, on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at his home. He was the loving husband of Mary Jane (Bruno) Papa to whom he had been married for 62 years.
Born in New York, NY he was the son of the late Ciro and Rosalie (Massaro) Papa.
George was a veteran of the Unites States Navy and later retired as a Detective for the NYPD, where he had served for 36 years. He raised his family in Staten Island, where he took part in coaching many of his children's sports teams. He was a member of the Pocono Lions Club, American Legion Wilson E. Fischer Post 413 and served as a delegate for the Patrolman's Benevolent Association for many years.
In addition to his wife Mary Jane, he is also survived by a daughter : Linda Young and her husband Chuck; four sons: Thomas Papa, William Papa and his wife Missy, John Papa, Ronald Papa and his wife Olga; fourteen grand children; six great grand children; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a viewing on Wednesday, October, 19 from 6-8:30 pm at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of routes 940 & 390 in Cresco. The Reverend Father John Boyle will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, October 20 at 11:00 a.m. St. Maximilian Kolbe in Pocono Pines. Burial will follow. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
