Obituary of Berne Cramer

Berne F. Cramer, 92, formerly of Mt. Pocono, died Wednesday, January 11 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Hamilton Township. He was the beloved husband of Jean (Mader) Cramer, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. Born on January 10, 1920 he was the son of the late Russell and Jennie Cramer. Berne graduated from East Stroudsburg High School and attended Penn State University. During World War II, Berne worked for Boeing Air Craft in Seattle, Washington. Upon returning to the area, he opened and managed a branch of the RC. Cramer Lumber Company, now known as Cramer's Cashway, where he worked until his retirement. Berne belonged to the United Methodist Church in Mt. Pocono for more than 60 years. He faithfully served his church in many leadership capacities. He served as a volunteer firefighter for both the Pocono Summit and Mt. Pocono fire companies. He was also a long standing member of the Mt. Pocono Rotary Club. Berne was also active in the development of the Mt. Pocono Airport and the Mt. Pocono YMCA. In addition, he was the first president of the Monroe County Visiting Nurses Association and served on numerous committees at the Monroe County Hospital, now Pocono Medical Center. Berne served his community faithfully and was also generous with his time and financial contributions. Last year he was honored by the Monroe County Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals with the lifetime achievement award, recognizing decades of philanthropy and service to the community. In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by a daughter, Harriet ; a son, Kenneth and his wife Doreen; two brothers, Clifford and Olin; five grandchildren, Aaron, Abigail, Janet, Donald and Kelly; two great grandchildren Russell and Katya; and several nieces and nephews.. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald. There will be a viewing on Friday, January 13th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home in Cresco. Reverend Dr. Stanley Menking will conduct a funeral service at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 14 at the Mt. Pocono United Methodist Church in Mt. Pocono. Burial will follow the service at Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Pocono Methodist Church, 12 Church Street, Mt.
