It is with deep sadness that I learn of Maria' passing. My experience with Maria has been exclusively through my association with the infrequent Crime Watch activities in the community in which we both resided. Whenever we saw one another alone, we chatted at length for several minutes and always embraced. Maria was at all times warm, welcoming and loving. At events, Maria could without fail be observed assisting others in selecting their food, or in providing substantial aid in maneuvering the staircase or in getting them seated in their vehicles. I always wanted to spend more time with Maria and often extended invitations. She spoke with me about her medical issues and I often volunteered assistance. She seemed independent and declined my help yet was always available to be of service to others in their times of need. There was such a special quality of kindness and gentleness about Maria and I am just so saddened by her absence. She was a rare sort of individual and the world was made a better place by her presence. She is already missed and though I knew her from a distance, I will not forget Maria Dean.
