Obituary of Walter Chawaga

Walter A. Chawaga, 77, of Canadensis, died Friday, February 5 at Montgomery Hospital in Norristown. He was the husband of Maureen (Quinn) Chawaga. Born in Chester, he was the son of the late Onofrey and Tekla (Babiak) Chawaga. His career in the service industry started out at the original Mt. Airy Lodge and Resort in Paradise where he was beverage manager. He owned and operated the Delmar Restaurant in Mt. Pocono as well as the Country Inn in Mountainhome. Walter was also the owner of a wines and spirits importing company. He was a member of the Canadensis United Methodist Church and also St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Chester. Walter was a member of the Pocono Masonic Lodge #780 and a Shriner. He served in the United States Army 7th Infantry Division during the Korean conflict. In addition to his wife, Maureen, he is survived by two sons, David Chawaga and his wife Trish of Phoenixville, Brian Chawaga and his wife, Brandi of Eagleville; a daughter, Karen DeStefano and her husband Paul of Malvern; two sisters, Anne Rosolowicz of Minersville and Lilly Kucheruk of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Jack, Kevin, Nick, Joey, Ryan, Liam, and Avery; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death four siblings, Steve, Olga, Elizabeth, and Stephen. There will be a viewing on Tuesday, February 9 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. The Reverend George Alt will conduct a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10 at the Canadensis United Methodist Church in Canadensis. Father Jerry Ozlanski will conduct an additional funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 12 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Chester, Pa. Interment will follow at the Lawn Croft Cemetery in Marcus Hook, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), 961 Marcon Blvd, Suite 452, Allentown, Pa. 18109 to benefit "Team in Training".
